“MLB: Top Free-Agent Charged With Domestic Violence”

By Dan Abate

Around the MLB during the months of December and January, this is the time in the off-season where teams acquire roaming free agents. Most of the free agents available on the market are players willing to sign lifetime deals- or just an extension contract for a year or so just to help out the team.

Would you consider a 105 mph fastball fast? If so, then you know that the only man capable of throwing a top speed of over 100 mph is a man by the name of Aroldis Chapman. Chapman, recently the MLB’s top free-agent willingly to sign a lifetime deal with the Dodgers, was charged with domestic violence in the first degree.

On December 12th, the police report was released about the dispute between Chapman and his girlfriend. It said Chapman had repeatedly pushed and choked and also fired eight gunshots in his garage during an argument at his home in Florida. Chapman was just about to break a multi-million dollar lifetime contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers back in late November. Ever since these allegations, teams around the MLB have held off on any current deals with the former All-Star pitcher.

The two teams pursuing Chapman (Dodgers and Nationals) are now less interested in making a deal after this incident. “It’s just a shame how this had to happen. He was just about to sign a HUGE contract,” said Senior Jason Cote. The MLB has delayed his signing due to a major on-going investigation including his girlfriend. Declining these allegations, Chapman and his attorney are hopeful in this situation that he won’t be charged. Awaiting the verdict, the MLB hopes that this case will soon come to an end and that he’ll get picked up by a team as soon as possible.
