From July of 2019 up until March of 2021, Billie Eilish has been sporting her classic dark brown hair with green roots. Recently, however, she has changed up her look, and the internet has freaked out.

Conspiracy theories that the 19-year-old artist dyed her hair have been circling around TikTok and were heightened at her 2021 Grammy performance where she looked like she was wearing a wig. It wasn’t until a post on Instagram on March 17 that these theories were proved–the singer now has bright platinum locks with bangs and wavy layers. Her hairstylist Lissa Renn revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that her reasoning behind wearing the wig was because it took Eilish 6 weeks to complete the process without damaging her hair.

The Instagram post is now one of her most popular, receiving over 37 million views & 11 million likes. Sophomore Yara Shobut expressed her enthusiasm for the new look, describing it as “gorgeous! I love it SO much!”

After experimenting with hair colors throughout the years–including blue and silver tones–this new natural look marks a new era–and it’s exciting.
