William Paterson University Instant Decision Day Comes to Wayne Hills
December 6, 2015
One of the most frustrating things about the college process is waiting. As seniors, we send in our applications to the colleges we want to attend and then we wait for two to three months for a decision. Accepted, denied, deferred? What is it? But what if schools gave you a decision within one day? Sounds too good to be true. Well, that’s exactly what William Paterson University did on Monday, December 7th from 9:30 am-2:30 pm. Seniors who applied to William Paterson had the opportunity to bring their SAT scores, their transcripts, and, at least, one letter of recommendation to a representative last Monday.
Twenty-four students participated and all of them were accepted, some of them receiving scholarships, according to Cynthia Gorkowski, WHHS guidance counselor.
“We are planning to increase the number of schools who are planning to participate in instant decision days next year,” said Gorkowski.
So what exactly are the benefits of an instant decision day? “I guess it’s helpful because you get to find out where you’re going to college quicker instead of having to go through the whole college process and having to wait,” said senior Adrianna Dicosimo. As it says on the flyer and in the e-mail that was sent out to the senior class, “This event is designed to drastically speed up the application process for students as you will go home with a decision THAT DAY!!”
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for students who meet the predetermined criteria to find out whether or not they would be accepted into their program of choice within a matter of minutes,” said guidance counselor Bruce Keogh.
