Hopeful Football Team Speaks about Rough Record
September 26, 2019
The football season has officially begun and all eyes are on the Varsity boys team. The season for the boys started rough with a loss against Ridgeview in South Carolina. The team also played against the school’s rival, Wayne Valley, and beat them 14-7 in a nail-biting game. Christian Puntolillo, the senior captain cornerback, had an unbelievable catch from that game that was featured on multiple New Jersey sports Instagrams and was recognized by CNN sports center.
The boys played against Old Tappan on September 21, losing 17-7. “It sucks that we lost, but this week we’re going to be working hard at practice,” Ryan D’Argenio, the senior punter, said. The loss took a big toll on the boys since their record is 1-2.
Although the season started out rough, the football team still has six games to improve and show the rest of New Jersey all the hard work they’ve put in. The next upcoming game is this Friday, September 27, against Fair lawn.
“The Fair lawn game is going to be a good one,” Puntolillo said. “Hopefully we blow them out, especially since it’s going to be senior night. Being a captain is a huge leadership role, you have to make sure everyone is doing their job and that’s what I’ll be doing this game and every game.”
The team, over the past few months, has been able to grow a strong connection with each other. “There are no star players, we all work together as a team and make it happen,” said D’Argenio.
The next big game football fans should be looking forward to is the Ramapo game. The Ramapo football team has been one of Wayne Hills’ main competitors for many years during the football season. The game will be on October 18th at 7 pm at Ramapo.
