NFL Season Update

By Jason Kobrin

We are just over halfway through the NFL season and this season is definitely one for the ages. There have been lots of upsets and surprising teams, both good and bad. And After ten weeks, two teams still remain undefeated, both the Patriots and the Panthers are 9-0. But with all of the good there has been lots of bad, many star players have went down with season ending injuries hurting their teams’ chances of making the playoffs. Also, multiple teams have fired coaches with an attempt to restart their season. Many teams are struggling for the last wild card spot in both conferences.  With still seven weeks of football left to be played, a lot of things will be determined with many teams still hoping to get to Santa Clara, California to play in Super Bowl 50.

With the Bengals loss against the Texans on Monday Night Football 10-6, the Patriots have taken sole possession of the number one seed in the AFC. Still undefeated along with the Panthers, both teams have some challenges to face. For the Patriots, Julian Edelman is going to miss six to eight weeks, most likely the remainder of the regular season, with a broken bone in his foot. This along with Dion Lewis’ season ending torn ACL really hurts the faster options in their passing game. The Panthers, on the other hand, have had to deal with star wide receiver, Kelvin Benjamin, being out for the season also with a torn ACL, has hurt their passing game. This contributed to Cam Newton’s completion percentage of 56.3, good for 29th in the league among qualified players. But, with all of this, these teams are still perfect.
