The Future for the Knicks

By Matt Mangibin, Staff Writer

As the All-Star game nears along with the playoffs, the Knicks hope to secure a good draft pick in the 2019-2020 year. The Knicks, with a record of 10-47, hope to finally come to a realization that their team might be the next big thing in the upcoming years as they hope to take no. 1 draft prospect, Zion Williamson, and possibly target Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.

The Knicks have not been looking sharp this season as they hold a 10-47 record. Although, the year does not look so depressing for the organization. With the upcoming draft and expiring contracts, they set their eyes on All-Stars that could possibly help the team succeed. Main targets like Irving and Durant would completely boost their chances of making the playoffs, and adding Zion Williamson to their team will even make things better.

Zion Williamson, from Duke University, hopes to play for any team that gives him an opportunity. He is asked by his teammates on his thoughts on playing for the Knicks and he wouldn’t mind joining them.

“If they drafted me, I would love to play for the Knicks. I’m not really … I don’t really care where I go, just the experience of being in the NBA. Whoever wants me and whoever sees the most in me, that’s where I want to be.”

Zion Williamson is already taking the collegiate level by storm along with his teammates, but think about what he can do in the NBA. He is not just the big talk for the Knicks, as there is also Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. Iriving is hitting free agency this summer and he had the Knicks as an option for his list of teams he wants to play for.

“[The metro area] will always be home to me,” he said. “I’m from New Jersey – to just be clear. This is where I grew up, man.”

Durant is also on the block of joining the team as he hits free agency this year as well. Knicks officials are staying very positive on the fact that he will be on the team by next year. Using him for marketing purposes, people appear to be optimistic on his arrival. Although, Durant came at the media in a different approach as he rips at them.

“I have nothing to do with the Knicks,” he said. “I don’t know who traded Porzingis. They got nothing to do with me. I’m trying to play basketball. Y’all come in here every day. Ask me about free agency. Ask my teammates, my coaches, you rile up the fans about it. Let us play basketball. That’s all I’m saying. And now when I don’t want to talk to y’all, that’s a problem on me. Come on, man. Grow up. Grow up.”

Anything could happen in the off-season and free agency. If Durant decides to opt out of his deal with the Warriors, there will be a very strong chance of him landing himself in the East.

A Knicks fan, Billy Busacca talks about his high hopes and feelings towards the “bright” future of the Knicks.

“Oh my God, having Zion with Durant and Kyrie on the Knicks will demolish any team that they face. The team will be so godly next year!”

A lot of Knicks fans are staying positive this upcoming year. Imagine the hype if the organization adds these three players to their roster. The world will go nuts about it, let’s see what happens. It’s only a matter of time before the draft and the free agency.
