“Wayne Hills: Basketball Is Back!”
November 17, 2015
As winter approaches, Wayne Hills is ready for another season to tip off. With the fall coming to an end, the Patriots are preparing for a tough winter ahead of them. Entering his third year as Wayne Hills’ head basketball coach, Kevin Grimes and the Patriots are determined to become the most dominant team in their league. To stay active, Coach Grimes has his team training while strength and conditioning five times a week. “Our goal this off-season is simple. It’s to get faster, stronger and mostly importantly, to build more chemistry among the team,” mentioned Grimes. This year the Patriots have plenty of options in the front court. The Boys Varsity team has seven returning seniors that will compete for a starting spot. This year Wayne Hills will have depth in their starting five with players ranging in age from sophomores to seniors.
Approaching the 2015-2016 basketball season, the Patriots are looking to have a successful year. After winning a Big North Championship in 2013-2014, Hills didn’t quite keep up the following season ending 9-17 after an 0-6 start and missing the NJSIAA tournament.
The Boys Varsity team fell short of their goal last year ending their 2014-2015 season with an overall 8-16 record, finishing up 4-6 in their league. The Patriots were ranked that year the 166th team in the state, meanwhile finishing short of their season predictions with a winning percentage of .333.
Don’t forget about our girls! It’s a fresh start for our Girls Varsity Basketball team this 2015-2016 season. Lead by Head Coach Ed Porta, the girls are determined to dominate the court once again. As the season approaches, the Patriots goal is to finish this year with another winning record. Last year the girls ended their 2014-2015 season with an overall 15-11 record, finishing up 5-5 in their league. The girls went an impressive 10-1 at home with winning percentage well over .500. Come help support our girls in their season opener while they battle Passaic County Tech on Monday, December 7th.
