Fencers Have High Hopes for This Season

Although her team lost a couple of seniors, Fencing Coach Christina Caamano has high hopes for this season.
“Two of our three, our A and B strip foil graduated along with our A strip for sabre and A and C strip for epee,” said Caamano. “For our fencers there are big shoes to fill, but I am confident they can do it,” Caamano adds.
Caamano said there are 11 seniors returning with a lot of experience. “I don’t want to jinx it but I have high hopes and I think we’re going to do well because our fencers have high spirits and are always looking to improve themselves.”
Caamano said she hopes that fencers have a positive experience this year. “I hope we continue to get better and better ‘on paper’ meaning our team record improves and I would like to see us win a county championship,” she adds.
“I like the sport a lot and I like the fun environment of the team, said Jamie Tulpan, a sophomore. I tried it out in seventh grade, and it just kinda grew out from there. I learned to always be on top of your game and be ready for anything,” said Tulpan, who likes the sabre blade the best because “It’s the fastest and most aggressive, obviously.”
