In honor of the week of respect at WHHS, National Arts Honor Society (NAHS) members planted blue ribbons outside Wayne Hills High School to show all those who have stood up to bullying in the past year in the US.

On Friday October 12, the members of NAHS put 600 flags outside the school to honor those who have intervened in a bullying situation. Each flag represented 3,040 students in the US in grades K through 12. According to statistics, 57% of bullying situations stopped when someone stepped in.

“NAHS wanted to have a new creative art installation that was a powerful demonstration about the importance of speaking up against bullies and being a voice for those who are too afraid to speak up for themselves” commented Marie Tripp, NAHS adviser. An art installation is a work of art that has to be physically “installed” and put together. The purpose was to create a visual representation of the importance of standing up to bullying.

The blue ribbons remind students that bullying is wrong and will never be tolerated within the halls of WHHS.

“I believe that this installation is a great opportunity for others to realize how impactful intervening is and to honor those who have done so”says the President of NAHS, Ria Shinde, a senior.
