Baby Born on Airplane
November 17, 2015
Earlier this month, a pregnant Taiwanese woman gave birth on a crowded plane on its way from Taipei to Los Angeles. The woman allegedly boarded the plane so that she could have her baby in the U.S. As the woman went into labor, the entire plane erupted into a panic as the staff rushed to help. Fortunately, there happened to be a doctor on the flight who was able to assist in delivering the baby. The plane was forced to land in Anchorage, Alaska so that she could be escorted to a near hospital. According to sources on the plane, as the woman went into labor, she refused to lie down so the baby could be delivered. She supposedly kept asking “are we in America yet?”
It is said that the women sneaked onto the plane to have her baby, so that it would automatically qualify for citizenship. The baby girl was born alive, healthy and in the U.S. As a result, the mother and her child were separated when the mother was deported back to Taiwan, and the child was kept in America and is being taken care of by a friend. Some are saying that the mother may have to pay for the cost of the diversion in Alaska. She has refused to speak out about the controversy of her decision. The China Airlines are facing some backlash for allowing a women that far along in her pregnancy to board their plane in the first place. Though it has not been made clear whether the women sneaked onto the plane, there is information that says she had lied about how long she had been pregnant so that she would be allowed to board. “We are advising our insurance companies to check if she had reached 32 weeks in her pregnancy at the time of her boarding,” says a spokesman.
