XFL Set To Launch In 2020

The XFL has been set to relaunch in 2020 and will be completely different. On January 25th Vince Mcmahon, the original owner of the XFL announced it will be making a huge return and he aims to change the way people watch football.

For those who don’t know the XFL was a football league that first aired in 2001 which was run by Vince Mcmahon, WWE(World Wrestling Entertainment), Vince McMahon’s company and NBC. The show started off strong most likely due to WWE fans supporting the product but they didn’t stay around. Ratings dropped and the XFL shutdown after one season.

This reboot of the XFL will be very different this time though, neither WWE or NBC will be involved this time. Vince McMahon is alone this time but has big ideas for the brand. This time he is pushing the XFL as a revolutionary idea. While revealing the reboot Vince McMahon said “Its football. But you want to reimagine it.¨

One of the biggest changes the XFL aims to achieve is a faster game. Vince Mcmahon plans to make the games last around 2 hours and might cut out halftime altogether. Other than that there isn’t much detail on how they will reduce the time of the game.

The first season of the returning XFL will be 10 games featuring 8 teams, 4 semifinal games, and one championship game. Each team will also have a roster of 40 which is smaller than the NFL’s roster.  With this information, we know the XFL will have 320 players at its launch in 2020.

It also seems that the XFL is trying hard to connect with fans already by putting the question on social media like what color should the football be. The XFL also just put a merch branch on their website featuring multiple shirts and hats.

The XFL also seems to be strict with who they are hiring. When asked about how they would hire Vince McMahon made it clear that they will not hire anyone with a criminal record, unlike the NFL. It was also stated that all players must stand during the flag salute, just recently the NFL made a change requiring players on the field to stand for the flag salute as well.

We went around asking the staff and students of what they think about the XFL and if it can compete with the NFL.

“I don’t believe the XFL will surpass the NFL.” said senior Jason Modak.

“The XFL will not be better than the NFL, but the second time will be a little better.” said basketball coach Mr. Grimes.

¨I think it is going to draw more WWE fans because of the involvement of Wrestlemania.¨ said sophomore Patrick Orapello.
