The world lost yet another talented and widely-known musician just one month ago, leaving fans with an endless amount of questions that had remained unanswered until now. Avicii, Swedish music producer and DJ, was announced dead on April 20, at the incredibly young age of 28. Only on May 1st, however, did it become known that his death had been, in fact, a suicide.

According to Avicii’s family members, he had been dealing with alcoholism to such a tremendous extent that he had even faced pancreatitis, causing him to lose both his appendix and gallbladder. Despite what many might have originally assumed, heavy drinking and an addiction to heroin-like painkillers were not the exact causes of death in this situation.

The large acquisition of money, along with newfound waves of fame, did not at all help Avicii’s persistent depression, which, according to his family, caused him to question the meanings of both happiness and life itself. Desperate to find peace, the young musician took his own life, using a shard of broken glass from a bottle, instigating a massive amount of bleeding that led to his final moments.

When asked about the tragic event, Collin Brooks, junior, stated, “I wish there was some way he could have been happy without ending it all.”
