Ship capsized in Canada
November 9, 2015
Rescuers recently scoured the waters off the coast of Vancouver, Canada after a ship capsized about 8 miles from the shore. The ship has been identified as the Leviathan 2, a whale watching tour boat that had 27 people on board. At least five have been pronounced dead and one is still missing. Four men and one woman died, their ages ranging from 18-76. Officials are still unsure as to what caused the ship to capsize. Some believe that the boat hit a rock while others believe a wave caused the ship to flip. The vessel has been towed to a nearby island where it remains mostly submerged.
This is such a tragedy, my heart really goes out to all the victims friends and family,” said senior Heather Clapp. “It really seems like an unexpected and unfortunate accident.”
“This vessel’s operated for 20 years with an absolutely perfect safety record and this is something just totally out of the blue”, said Jamie Bray, the owner of the ship. However, in 1998 another whale watching boat belonging to Bray was also involved in a fatal incident. The investigation as to what caused the ship to capsize in is its early stages but officials believe it could take months until they have all the details.
