At Marshall County High School in Benton, Kentucky, a student walked into the school with a handgun, killing two and injuring 18.

The shooter was a 15-year-old student at the high school. His name has not yet been released but he is being charged two counts of murder and 12 counts of first degree assault. Prosecutors plan on charging the young man as an adult, which would likely have him in prison for the rest of his life.

Authorities identified the slain victims as Bailey Holt and Preston Cope, both 15. Bailey died at the high school, and Preston died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. The victims ranged from 14-18 years old.

Bailey Holt, one of the two killed in the shooting, missed phone calls from her mother. Eventually she called back. Unfortunately for the Holt family, it was the last time they would hear Bailey’s voice.

The shooter fired his weapon at 8:57am and the first 911 call came in two minutes later, according to authorities.

As of today, the 26th day of 2018, there has been 11 schools shootings already in the United States. Senior Jaclyn Levendusky said, “It is said that it has gotten to the point where a school shooting doesn’t surprise us anymore.”
