Boys Basketball Mid-Season Review

The Wayne Hills Boys Basketball team has once again begun their quest to capture a county title. The team has gotten off to a 9-4 start including a 4-1 conference record. Recently, the team beat St. Joe’s Preparatory High School on Thursday, January 11th at their home court with an astonishing score of 71-53! Justin Wills scored 30 points and the Belli brothers combined scored 26. On a similar note, Joey Belli recently attended a ceremony in his honor for surpassing 1,000 career points. Belli is averaging a staggering 21 points per game on the season!

On the following Tuesday, the boys defeated Clifton with a resounding score of 89-58. Justin Wills dropped 23, Joey Belli scored 17, and Patrick Gilmore added 12 points, knocking down two shots from behind the three-point arc.

Thursday night, the team suffered a loss to Kennedy; playing this strong team revealed some of their weaknesses. The game went into an overtime period with the score tied at 58 after 4 quarters. Jamir Lattimore,  a senior for Kennedy, was pivotal to his team’s win. He scored 20 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and dished out 3 assists. On the Hills side, Joey Belli scored 18 points on 4 three-pointers, Justin Wills scored 14, and Jake Belli had 11. The boys stand at 9-4 and will try to rebound from their tough loss on Sunday at Bergen Catholic.
