Amazon Purchases Whole Foods

Amazon, the world’s largest online shopping website, recently purchased Whole Foods for $13.7 Billion back in November. The move is in line with Amazons other recent ventures into retail, such as its new brick-and-mortar stores Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go.

Acquisition by Amazon is likely to reduce costs at Whole Foods, benefiting consumers worldwide, even the students of Wayne Hills. Lower costs at Whole Foods, known for its quality (but expensive) organic products, could promote healthier eating and a healthier lifestyle in general for cash-strapped high school students.

Hills students tended to favor the acquisition.

Andrew Conklin, a senior, says, “I think what Amazon is doing is a good thing because they want to make organic and healthier food more affordable”.

When Amazon bought Whole Foods, people saw it as a way for Amazon to make a big investment and grow as a whole. However, according to Business Insider, 47% of Chief Data Officers (CDO) believe that their firms are at risk of major disruption in the next decade. And all that disruption will most likely come from Data. And Amazon wants to use data to reverse-engineer retail in a way that will possibly change it forever.
