June 5th marked the annual Apple WWDC Day, which for many of the technologically savvy apple users is an exciting day. Held at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center, Apple had many speakers who introduced the newest products and software that will come out at some point during the year. This year’s Developer’s Conference was one to remember as it was one of the biggest iOS releases ever.

With the 11th installment of Apple’s software, Apple took a lot of input from their consumer base when upgrading. The fanbase wanted an improved Siri that can perform more actions, which Apple accomplished. Many people called for the redesigning of the Control Center that slides up from the bottom, and Apple came through. People wanted a way to send money to their friends in a way that was similar to the app Venmo, and Apple delivered.

Along with many wishes, Apple also included many unexpected new features. One such one is the makeover of the app store. The app store has different categories at the bottom that sorts games from other apps as well as a lot cleaner design. Another example of an unexpected overhaul is in the camera app. Now the camera app can take different types of pictures such as long exposures. Another great feature is with the Maps app. Many of the new drivers at Hills will love the fact that the navigation application now directs what lane to be in to avoid missing turns and exits. The maps app can also guide users with indoor directions as well. Apple even included a setting so that when the user is driving, the phone will not show any new notifications, which could greatly reduce accidents caused by texting and driving.

Eric Miller, a junior, commented, “The new iOS looks really great. I wanted them to finally include Facetime between multiple people, but it still looks exciting regardless.”

Overall, the new software Apple introduced gets its fan base excited for its release. For those who are extra eager to try out the software, Apple has Beta testing where the users can get the software ahead of the usual September release and test it out. Developers who pay the $99 yearly fee can get the Beta as soon as today, but for the regular user, the public Beta comes out at the end of June.
