Trump Fires 46 US Attorneys

By Seth Friedman, Staff Writer

President Donald Trump has asked for the resignation of the 46 remaining US Attorneys appointed by former President Obama, including Preet Bharara.

It is not unusual for a President to appoint their own attorneys, however, it is unprecedented to fire them all in such a swift fashion.  Former Presidents like Bush and Obama have replaced the old attorneys over a years time.  Now, the county is going to be left without any US Attorneys, as Congressional Democrats are most likely to block Trump’s nominees to the vacant positions, according to published accounts.

One US Attorney in specific is US Manhattan Attorney Preet Bharara.  Bharara was asked by President Trump to keep his position as he has done a lot of great work in taking down corrupt politicians and Wall Street malfeasance. Bharara refused to resign and was fired the next day by President Trump.

This specific situation brings up many interesting questions.  What made President Trump change his mind from wanting to keep Bharara on the job in January, to last week, when he fired him?

The Constitution does not allow the President to receive money from foreign governments, and a few weeks ago, Bharara was urged to start an investigation into whether  President Trump, as part of his business, was receiving money from foreign nations.  And it just so happens to be that Bharara has jurisdiction over Trump Tower, where Bharara could investigate these claims.

“It seems very suspicious that Trump would fire Bharara right before he launched an investigation into the possible illegal dealings of the Trump Administration,” said Michael Ferreira.

If Bharara found evidence against President Trump, he could certainly be impeached, sources indicate.

The upcoming weeks will prove to be interesting as we will have to see how the country can do without any US Attorneys and if anymore evidence comes to the surface against the President.
